Raritan Resources

This section provides links to a broad and growing bank of resources to assist Raritan stakeholders in their efforts to study, explore and plan for a more sustainable Raritan River, basin and bay.

About the Raritan

In this section, we’ve provided a brief overview of the Raritan that describes the importance of its resources to the 1.5 million people and diverse fish and wildlife that live here.  This section includes a history of the region, descriptions of the Raritan subwatersheds, as well as a growing collection of maps.

Watershed Partners

We’ve provided links to over 130 organizations, governmental entities and businesses that are contributing to the restoration and preservation of Raritan assets. The Sustainable Raritan River Collaborative was started in 2009, building upon earlier work of the Raritan Alliance and the New Jersey Water Supply Authority.  Each member organization in the Collaborative contributes to the overall restoration and preservation of the Raritan.  Collectively we are changing the conversation about the future of the River and its value to our economy and the environment.

Raritan Reports, Studies and Videos

We’ve compiled a growing bibliography on the Raritan including a special bibliography prepared by the NJDEP focused on the Raritan estuary and bay.  And we’ve included films and video that star the Raritan!  If you know of other titles on the Raritan, please send us a link so we can add them to the list.

Research Equipment and Data

This section also includes information about tools you can access to advance your own Raritan-based research, planning, and decision-making including how to rent the R/V Rutgers research vessel, what equipment is available on the boat, and how to access data from the Raritan deployed mooring.

Goings on Around the Raritan

Our newsletter highlights best management practices, important notices, special events, local environmental jobs, and lots of volunteer opportunities.  You can access back issues of these and press releases here.  The calendar at right includes activities of many of our Raritan region partners.  Join our newsletter e-mail list (lower right corner of this site) and send us your events and news for inclusion in our calendar or newsletter.

Rutgers on the Raritan

Part of the mission of the Rutgers Raritan River Consortium is to apply Rutgers’ research, programming and resources in collaboration with other Raritan partners to advance improvements in regional planning, policy and decision-making that positively affects the Raritan region.  RU on the Raritan showcases some of the work of Rutgers’ faculty, staff and students — often in partnership with other Raritan stakeholders.  Raritan River Studios highlights work of graduate planning students to conduct hands-on research for real-life clients and to devise team-based solutions.

Let us know if you are aware of other resources that we could add or if you have trouble finding a resource.
