Raritan Research

Research is key to understanding current processes and to effecting positive change.  Rutgers faculty, staff and students are studying Raritan environs and working with other Raritan stakeholders to explore a wide range of issues affecting the Raritan and the quality of life in the region.  This section highlights recent and current research, presents a body of work about the Raritan or utilizing the Raritan to inform research, and describes our efforts to facilitate collaboration on data development through our mini-grant and internship programs.

RU on the Raritan are summary blogs describing specific research, curriculum, projects, programs and best management practices by Rutgers affiliates that either focus on the Raritan or address an issue affecting the Raritan.

Raritan Bibliography is a growing compilation of studies, reports, and books that focuses on the Raritan and its environmental concerns.  We’ve included individual works as well as a compiled bibliography on the Raritan Bay that was prepared for us by the New Jersey Department of Environment Protection’s Office of Science for our “Two States – One Bay” conference in 2015.  Please let us know if you have a publication we could add to this resource.

The R3C Mini-grant and Internship Pool program encourages collaboration between Rutgers affiliates and stakeholders throughout the Raritan basin to address research, public information, and planning needs and to promote best management practices for a more sustainable Raritan River, basin and bay.  This program was initiated with funding from then Chancellor Edwards and now Chancellor Dutta.
